The Next Standard in Preventive Dentistry:
Listening Skills, Experiential OHI, and Practical Knowledge for Continuous Care

予防歯科のネクストスタンダード
~聴く力・体験型OHI・継続ケアの実践知~

Even with clear explanations, patients often struggle to keep up with self‑care. What preventive dentistry needs today is not just telling, but uncovering each patient’s thoughts and lifestyle. In this session, we’ll share listening skills, experiential OHI, and practical ideas that support long‑term care. Let’s discover together how to transform everyday maintenance time.

Professional Preventive Management of Dental Implants in Korean Dentistry within a Super-Aging Society

超高齢社会における韓国歯科のインプラント専門的予防管理

  • Characteristics and clinical realities of preventive dentistry in Korea
  • The professional role of dental hygienists in implant maintenance care in Korea
  • A structured professional preventive management system based in a preventive clinic
  • Clinical case presentations of professional preventive management for implants in elderly patients
  • Clinical approaches to promote regular and continuous patient recall visits
As Korea enters a super-aged society, the number of elderly patients with dental implants is rapidly increasing, emphasizing the importance of long-term implant maintenance. However, preventive care systems remain difficult to establish within Korea’s treatment-oriented dental environment. In addition, elderly patients often present with complex oral conditions and lifelong habits, making standardized oral hygiene approaches insufficient for effective maintenance care.
This lecture introduces individualized preventive maintenance strategies based on patients’ age, lifestyle, oral environment, and risk factors. It also presents the professional role of Korean dental hygienists in implant maintenance and shares clinical experiences from a prevention-centered clinic providing lifelong oral care programs. The clinic has expanded from a small preventive unit into an independent system staffed by dental hygienists and a periodontist, demonstrating the potential of prevention-focused dental care in Korea.
Through clinical cases involving elderly implant patients, this lecture demonstrates how repeated professional maintenance and improved self-care behaviors may contribute to periodontal stabilization. In selected cases with peri-implant bone loss, non-surgical preventive management showed changes suggestive of tissue stabilization and possible bone regeneration.
This lecture aims to explore practical preventive systems for long-term implant maintenance in elderly populations and discuss the expanding role of dental hygienists in preventive dentistry within a super-aged society.
