Practical Strategies for Sleep Apnea Management in Dentistry

あなたの診療室で実践! 睡眠時無呼吸治療

  • Oral Appliances: How to Determine Which Patients Respond to Oral Appliance Therapy
  • The Key to Success: Titration Techniques for Oral Appliance Therapy
  • Enhancing Patient Satisfaction: Incorporating Sleep Hygiene Counseling
The treatment of sleep apnea involves multiple healthcare disciplines, and dentistry now plays an indispensable role. Oral appliance (OA) therapy is an effective option, but its efficacy varies among patients, making appropriate case selection essential. Even in suitable candidates, treatment outcomes decline without proper titration. The goal is not simply to fabricate an OA, but to improve sleep quality. To achieve this, it is important for all staff to deepen their understanding of sleep medicine and provide appropriate guidance, which ultimately enhances patient satisfaction.

  • Understand the Disease! Pathophysiology of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Sleep Test
  • Understand the Treatment! Oral Appliance Therapy and CPAP Therapy
  • Visualizing the Airway! Live Demonstration of Self-Endoscopy by Lecturer
With an estimated 22 million potential patients, the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea necessitates collaboration between medical and dental professionals. This approach requires not only knowledge of oral appliance therary provided by dentists but also expertise in medical sleep studies (PSG) and medical treatment methods (CPAP therapy). Furthermore, evaluating the “airway”―the site where apnea occurs―is critically important. Through engaging and accessible lectures featuring actual clinical videos and live demonstrations, we will guide you into the “blue ocean” of sleep dentistry.

Home Testing! Visualized Sleep Bruxism and Its Treatment

  • Understand your sleep condition through objective data.
  • Small adjustments, big differences: How oral appliance materials and occlusal adjustments affect treatment.
  • Beyond oral appliances: What other treatment options are available?
Although sleep bruxism is highly likely to be encountered in clinical settings, patients themselves are often unaware of it. Therefore, it is crucial to first quantify their condition during sleep through home testing to "visualize" the pathology. While treatment often relies primarily on oral appliances, this presentation will introduce multifaceted approaches, including behavioral changes and lifestyle modifications. I will also share specific, practical strategies that can be integrated into clinical practice starting tomorrow.
