From Diagnosis to Treatment Planning for Patients with Occlusal Collapse - The 6th International Dental Symposium

Although occlusion is fundamentally based on natural science, it is also guided by principles derived from the clinical observations of those who came before us. When reconstruction is indicated for patients with a collapsed dentition, treatment objectives are typically established to achieve an optimal condylar position, a stable intercuspal position, an appropriate occlusal vertical dimension, and proper anterior guidance. However, as with any set of clinical principles, exceptions do exist.
This lecture will focus on the diversity of anterior guidance and discuss how it should be interpreted in different clinical cases. By recognizing these variations and tailoring treatment to the individual patient, clinicians can establish the most appropriate occlusion for each case, ultimately contributing to more favorable long-term outcomes.

The key to successful prosthodontic treatment is the ability to establish an appropriate treatment plan based on thorough examination and diagnosis, with a focus on long-term prognosis. In recent years, advances in digital technology have dramatically changed prosthodontic techniques and clinical workflows. However, no matter how sophisticated the new "tactics" become, high-quality prosthodontic treatment cannot be achieved without a sound underlying "strategy." This lecture will review the transition from conventional clinical practice to modern digital workflows and discuss the fundamental principles of prosthodontic treatment that remain unchanged despite technological advances.

Recent advances in adhesive technology and the development of various high-strength restorative materials have made it possible to provide minimally invasive and esthetic treatment for damaged teeth and oral diseases. However, misunderstanding the concept of MI dentistry may lead to inappropriate treatment intervention or excessive tooth reduction, ultimately compromising patient outcomes. In this lecture, I will present my approach to MI treatment for patients with severe tooth wear, focusing on appropriate treatment intervention and clinical decision-making.
