Enhancing eating function through periodontal therapy: A new perspective in the care of patients with diabetes
– From inflammation control to improved masticatory function: Supporting dietary therapy through periodontal care –

  • Data-driven inflammation control: Redefining periodontal therapy and patient education
  • Improving masticatory function to support dietary management in patients with diabetes
  • Optimizing oral health through evidence-based selection of preventive products
As life expectancy continues to increase, greater attention is being placed on dietary management as a key component of lifelong health. In patients with diabetes, maintaining a balanced diet is essential for achieving stable glycemic control, and preserving masticatory function through a healthy dentition plays a critical role in this process. This lecture will discuss how maintenance therapy and SPT can contribute to preserving oral function while supporting systemic health. Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of clinical data to enhance patient education and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of oral health management, providing practical strategies that can be readily incorporated into daily clinical practice.

Control of Occlusal Force in Periodontal Therapy:
Striving for True Prevention

歯周治療における力・咬合のコントロール:
真の予防を目指す

  • Common complications during the maintenance phase
  • The relationship between occlusal force and periodontal disease
  • Recognizing changes in occlusal force and identifying subtle signs early — Striving for the practice of “true prevention”
The purpose of maintenance therapy is to preserve oral health over the long term.
As dental hygienists, we provide ongoing care through daily clinical procedures such as PMTC and TBI and sometimes encounter complications such as the recurrence of periodontal disease and the fracture of prosthetic restorations during maintenance care.
One possible contributing factor behind these problems is occlusal force.
In this lecture, I will focus on complications that commonly occur during the maintenance phase and discuss how occlusal force can lead to these problems, how to recognize early signs of troubles through subtle intraoral changes, and what perspectives are necessary for achieving long-term stability through clinical cases.

Looking beyond maintenance and SPT: Recognizing oral hypofunction through the eyes of a dental hygienist

  • Looking beyond maintenance: Why dental hygienists should assess oral function as part of routine care
  • Recognizing the early signs of oral hypofunction through routine SPT assessments
  • From diagnosis to long-term management: Clinical cases of oral hypofunction
Traditionally, maintenance and SPT have focused primarily on periodontal health. In recent years, however, incorporating the assessment of oral function into routine maintenance has enabled clinicians to detect subtle functional changes at an earlier stage. This broader perspective not only supports the long-term maintenance of oral health but also contributes to overall systemic health and healthy aging. This lecture will focus on the early signs of oral hypofunction that can be identified through routine assessments performed during SPT. Using clinical cases, practical approaches will be presented for integrating oral function assessment seamlessly into daily clinical practice and for establishing effective long-term management strategies.
