  • Execution (instrumentation) – Translating clinical assessment and instrument selection into predictable SRP techniques
SRP is far more than a technical scaling procedure; it is a critical component of periodontal therapy in which treatment outcomes depend on sound clinical judgment and consistent, reproducible instrumentation. This lecture will discuss location-specific treatment strategies based on the condition of the periodontal tissues, principles of instrument selection according to root surface characteristics, and key techniques for achieving predictable clinical results. Rather than simply performing SRP, the focus will be on the practical decision-making and technical execution required to consistently translate treatment into successful clinical outcomes.

Clinical decision-making after SRP: Connecting initial periodontal therapy to SPT

  • Is the patient truly ready to transition to SPT after SRP?
  • Why clinical uncertainty may persist despite improvements in probing depths
  • Re-evaluation as the foundation for clinical decision-making, not simply a measure of treatment success
  • Determining appropriate SPT intervals to achieve long-term periodontal stability
  • Selecting the appropriate instruments for patients with attachment loss during supportive periodontal therapy
Re-evaluation following SRP is more than a confirmation of treatment outcomes; it is a critical decision point for determining whether to transition to SPT, perform further non-surgical intervention, or proceed with periodontal surgery. Through clinical cases spanning the initial examination, initial periodontal therapy, and ongoing SPT, this lecture will discuss how to interpret not only improvements in clinical parameters such as PPD and BOP, but also inflammation control, residual risk factors, and changes associated with the patient's life stage. In addition, individualized SPT interval planning, management of attachment loss, and the principles of instrument selection and maintenance during the SPT phase will be presented, providing a clinical approach to translating SRP into stable periodontal management.

  • Long-term maintenance (supportive care) – Clinical perspectives on preserving periodontal stability through long-term case management
Achieving predictable outcomes in periodontal therapy requires several fundamental principles. This lecture will present practical tips and techniques that can be applied in daily clinical practice from four perspectives: assessment, active therapy, optimization, and long-term maintenance.
Using clinical cases, the lecture will discuss clinical decision-making in challenging situations, key technical considerations, appropriate instrument selection and maintenance, and approaches to long-term maintenance for preserving periodontal stability.
Practical insights that can be immediately applied in daily clinical practice will also be shared.
