The Next Stage in Periodontal Therapy
― Root Morphology as the Key to Successful Treatment ―
歯周治療 Next Stage
~歯根形態を制する者は歯周治療を制す!見えない領域を読み解くKey~
How clearly can you visualize the subgingival environment during periodontal treatment? This session will introduce ways to understand root morphology in three dimensions, approaches for predicting root surface anatomy from clinical findings, and practical techniques for managing challenging areas. By exploring the “why” behind subgingival instrumentation, the speakers will share practical insights that can be applied in daily clinical practice.
Lecturer
Clinical Considerations and Root Morphology in Japanese patients : Learning Root Surfaces Through 3D Images
- Understanding 3D root morphology: Moving beyond 2D textbook illustrations
- Visualizing root surface anatomy through probing: Applying anatomical knowledge to accurate root surface detection
- Mastering root grooves: Strategies for thorough and predictable root debridement
- Understanding furcation anatomy: Recognizing the limitations of root debridement
For example, on the distal surface of the last molar, there may be a deep pocket without pus discharge, and calculus may be present but impossible to remove. Furthermore, when debridement is performed on the mesial surfaces of maxillary premolars or mandibular canines but the pocket remains, how far does a Grade III enamel projection extend into the furcation?
Do you encounter situations like these in your daily clinical practice?
In this session, I would like to explore these possible causes from the perspective of root anatomy using 3D images.
Lecturer
Clinical decision-making in periodontal therapy: Integrating radiographic and clinical findings for root surface detection
- Root surface detection begins before instrumentation: A clinical thought process for predicting root surface conditions
- Root surface detection extends beyond probing: Using radiographic and clinical findings to guide tactile assessment
- What distinguishes effective root surface detection from ineffective root surface detection in SRP
- How the quality of root surface detection influences SRP, re-evaluation, and long-term maintenance
Lecturer
Advancing SRP skills: Managing challenging sites and furcation involvement
- Understanding why certain areas remain difficult to instrument during SRP
- Understanding furcation involvement with confidence
- Mechanical plaque control that leads to predictable clinical outcomes
